What is parts compatibility?

Parts compatibility allows sellers to show all the vehicles that are compatible with a part or accessory in a single listing, helping to save time and money and giving buyers an easy way to find the right parts for their vehicles.

When you assign compatible cars to your listing, buyers will find the parts they’re looking for more quickly, knowing that they’re buying a part that fits their model. This should help result in fewer queries and returns. You can choose compatible cars from a Master Vehicle List (MVL) of more than 37,000 models.

Master Vehicle List download

To download the latest Master Vehicle List, follow the steps below.
Note: You will need to accept a User Agreement in order to download the MVL.

1. Click on the ‘Download Master Vehicle List’ link below
2. Enter the password VehicleList when prompted
3. Once downloaded, open the file and accept the User Agreement
4. The Master Vehicle List will then be available for you to view.

From time to time, eBay may update the Master Vehicle List. You are solely responsible for ensuring that your inventory is mapped to the most current version of the Master Vehicle List at any given time.

To receive email notification of updates to the Master Vehicle List, please send your email address and eBay user ID to VehicleListUpdatesAU@ebay.com.au

Note: If you use the eBay API directly to list or revise parts, you will need a different MVL in order to list or revise the parts compatibility information. Please contact us at VehicleListUpdatesAU@ebay.com.au with the subject "API MVL for eBay.com.au" and we will get back to you. This does not affect any seller listing or revising parts via the Sell Your Item (SYI) flow, 3rd party providers, or eBay tools.

Which categories is parts compatibility available in?

Parts compatibility is now available in most subcategories of Car, Truck Parts on eBay.com.au. The following categories are currently excluded.

We will announce the release of parts compatibility listings in additional categories as they become available.

Creating new listings using the Master Vehicle List

You can update or add the parts compatibility data to your listings using Sell Your Item, the API, or 3^rd party providers. You can select compatible vehicles using options for make, model, variant, year, submodel, platform/generation, body style, type, and engine.

At a minimum, you must specify the following characteristics when defining compatible vehicles for your part or accessory:

• Make
• Model
• Variant

You can also choose to provide more detail by adding these characteristics:

• Body style
• Type
• Submodel
• Year
• Engine

You can match your part with up to 37,000 models of vehicle and a searchable compatibility table will be shown to buyers on the item description page. This means that:

• You'll have more room to describe your item in more detail in the item title, because you no longer need to include the vehicle details in the item title
• You only need to create a single listing for all the vehicles compatible with your part or accessory. You no longer need to create multiple duplicate listings.

Modifying existing listings using the Master Vehicle List

As of 15 November 2012, you will be able to add parts compatibility information to new and existing listings. You should create a single listing for your part or accessory, adding all the models your part or accessory is compatible with, and end any duplicate listings.

If you don’t have duplicate listings, then all you will need to do is revise your item in the Sell Your Item (SYI) flow or via the API. 

If you do have duplicate listings:

1. Use the free eBay Listing Analytics tool in the My eBay application tab to identify which of your duplicate listings is the most successful
2. End all listings
3. Add the compatible cars from the MVL to the most successful listing and relist it.

Note: If you want to change the title or category of your listing, you should end the listing and relist it. Doing this means you will keep your sales rank history.

Example:

If you currently have two listings titled ‘Brake Pads for BMW 316’ and ‘Brake Pads for BMW 318’ but the item listed is identical, you should relist the most successful listing as ‘Brake Pads’, adding the compatible car models - BMW 316 and BMW 318 - from the MVL to your listing.
